2014 Marine Corps Marathon Recap
We would like to thank all of our Team Marine Parents and TMP supporters for helping make the 2014 racing season a success! Months of hard work, determination, and blood, sweat, and tears culminated Sunday, October 26, in the 39th running of the Marine Corps, or "People's", Marathon.
As an official 2014 MCM charity partner, we had the opportunity to operate an informational booth Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, where we were able to provide information on our various outreach programs to anyone who was interested. We were also fortunate to have 17 volunteers come out to help us run the booth and make sure things went smoothly.
On the night before the race, we held a dinner banquet for our runners and their family members and were happy to see that almost 50 people showed up! The evening began with everyone sitting down to eat a carb-filled dinner to help prepare them for the next day's marathon. Marine Parents Founder and Executive Director Tracy Della Vecchia then asked the runners to stand and introduce themselves. Then, the top fundraisers were each presented with a United States Marine Corps Appreciation of Excellence coin to as a token of our appreciation. The recipients of the coins were:
- Paul Nolin—$2,750
- Craig VanMetre—$2,170
- Cheryl Fairfield—$1,515 (her second straight year of raising more than $1000!)
- Melanie Nuce—$1,000
In total, Team Marine Parents raised more than $22,000 for the outreach programs of MarineParents.com.
Sunday, the day of the race, was a beautiful fall day with barely a cloud in the sky—a perfect day for running. We are very pleased to announce that approximately 30 TMP runners completed the 2014 Marine Corps Marathon, one of our highest totals yet! This level of support and commitment from our participants is truly impressive and greatly appreciated.
Perhaps the most poignant parts of the entire weekend for us were when our charity booth volunteers thanked us for giving them the opportunity to volunteer and at the dinner when our runners, including a Gold Star Mother, thanked us for helping their families through the Marine Corps journey. It's great to know that our mission of providing support to the troops and their family members is having a positive impact! However, none of what we do would be possible without so many dedicated supporters around the county, so we want to take this opportunity to extend our most sincere thanks and gratitude to all everyone who helped make 2014 such a successful year. We look forward to seeing you in 2015!
