TMP at the 2018 Marine Corps Marathon

tmp 2018

We are excited to announce that 38 of our Team Marine Parents (TMP) runners participated in the 43rd Marine Corps Marathon and MCM10K on Sunday, October 28, 2018. We are extremely grateful for the hard work and dedication put forth by each and every one of them. These runners trained all year long in addition to fundraising and spreading awareness of the organization. Together, TMP runners raised almost $26,000.00 for the outreach programs of, Inc. so far in 2018.

In addition to fundraising and spreading awareness of Marine Parents, our runners ran in honor of 11 fallen service members. Each runner wore a ribbon with a fallen hero's name and photo on it and attached it to their bibs with a battle cross lapel pin. Thank you, TMP runners, for honoring Gold Star family members.

One of our community relations volunteers, Diana, traveled to DC to be part of the TMP Fan Squad. She had a TMP banner and stood at mile 19 to cheer our runners on and catch photos of the action. In addition to our boots on the ground Fan Squad, we also had a virtual Fan Squad. Hundreds of members of the Official Facebook groups changed their social media profile photos in support of our TMP runners, and many followed along on the TMP Facebook page as we posted updates about our runners' progress on the course. We all watched the interactive map online as each of our runners crossed the finish line. Our runners agree that training and competing is much easier when someone is cheering them on, and we are so thankful for all of you that helped us do just that.

Michael Cummins, Jason Jacobs, Jill Kveton, and Maria Gomez were the first four TMP runners to complete the marathon. All of our runners did an excellent job, and we are so proud of their accomplishments!

Our TMP runners are from all over the United States, and a lot of them had never met before. The night before the marathon, Marine Parents hosted a dinner for them and their family members at the Piola Restaurant. It was a wonderful opportunity for 22 of our runners and their family members to get to know each other before the big day! Many of them also had a chance to meet up again on race day for a group photo before the Marathon.

We are so happy with the great success of the 2018 Team Marine Parents team and we want to carry this momentum over to 2019 as we apply to be a charity partner with the Marine Corps Marathon for the eighth year in a row. If accepted as a charity partner once again, we will have 50 bibs available for the 44th Marine Corps Marathon. Much of this success is thanks to our amazing volunteers, Lisa Gutierrez and Shannon Perez. They have been mentors, coaches, and fans to all of our runners. They gave great training advice and tips to our runners in our TMP Facebook Group. We could not have done it without them!

We have heard nothing but enthusiasm and excitement from our runners and many plan to join us again next year. If you are interested in joining us in 2019, please subscribe to our TMP Newsletter and join our TMP Facebook Group for important information. Thank you to our runners and to our fan squad for making Team Marine Parents such a success!
