Run for Recovery: In memory of Scott Haynie

Event Description:

We invite you to join us on September 7th to walk or run at the beautiful Stephens Lake Park for 2 great causes. We will walk/run to honor the memory of Scott and all those who lost the fight against addiction, and in support of National Recovery month for those fighting addiction and for their recovery.

James Michael Scott Haynie was born in Columbia, MO to Jim Haynie and Heidi Hall. He attended Ceder Ridge Elementary, Oakland Jr. High and Rock Bridge High School. Scott had an infectious smile and a big heart. Growing up he loved playing and watching sports with his friends and family. He especially loved the St. Louis Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys.

On September 3rd 2018, Scott died of a lethal dose of Fentanyl after 9 months of sobriety. He fought a good fight and left this world too soon. He left behind his mother Heidi and her fiance Roger; his father and step-mother, Jim and Cheryl. Scott had 5 siblings - Angelee, Jason, Emilee, Heather and Jacob and their spouses Matt, Brandon, and Mytch. He also loved his 7 nieces and nephews; Ben, Ashlee, Melena, Kaisyn, Carter, Drew, and Rhett. He shared a loving relationship with his beautiful girlfriend Darian.

Scott is greatly missed by many but we hope his legacy can live on through raising awareness and understanding about the disease of addiction. We stand together to let others know they are not alone.

The 5K will take place rain or shine, at Stephens Lake Park at 2001 E. Broadway in Columbia, MO. All ages and fitness levels are welcome to join. The 5K (3.1 mile) run/walk will begin at 9:30 a.m, check in the morning of from 8-9am.

Proceeds and donations will go towards recovery and awareness efforts in our community as well as being donated to The Don Howard scholarship fund, which is awarded to someone in recovery working to further their education.
