"Home of the free because of the brave" is not an idle statement in my family! Two of my uncles proudly served in the Army during WWII (one of whom was in the Army Air Corps, the precursor to the Air Force), as did my father (also Army Air Corps), who was captured by the Japanese in the Philippines, survived the Bataan Death March, and was a POW for three years.
To carry on this proud tradition of serving our country, my grandson graduated from Marine Corps boot camp last June, a day my family and I will never forget. We are so proud of him!
I have been married for 22 years and am the super proud mom of three adult children, the stepmom to two great stepchildren, and a grandma to eight grandchildren and one great grandson!
After working for Amoco as an IT Computer Security analyst for 16 years, I am now retired and run a home- based scrapbooking business, as well as volunteering as a Master Gardener. I have been volunteering with MarineParents.com as the Company Leader for Fox Company, San Diego since October, 2015. It has been an amazing experience. We go in with the desire to help and bless others, but the recruits and Marine families bless us even more.
I started race walking two years ago after being inspired by my son, my Marine's dad, and have never looked back! It's been an amazing journey. I've entered mostly multi-race challenges and completed my first half marathon in November, 2015. To honor my dad and my children's granddad, my kids and I will be doing the Bataan Memorial Death March Marathon next month. My first full marathon will be this year's 41st annual Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., one that I know will be an unforgettable experience.
