THE BEGINNING: January, 2021
I am going to commit to every virtual run from MarineParents.com for 2021. I making a commitment to my own health by joining Team Marine Parents. And it's kind of scary for me. I walked two miles for the MarineParents.com Virtual Run for Military Appreciation on May 24, 2020, and I just barely made it. With encouragement from my amazing daughter and oldest grandson, I did it. And from this experience, I have determined that I've got to make a commitment to my own health. That's me in the background of this photo. I'm hoping that along this journey of fitness, I can complete each monthly virtual run with the organization and add a mile every month.

I turn 60 in June this year and for the last 18+ years, I've dedicated my life to MarineParents.com. Now it's time to dedicate time to my own health in addition to the caring and support for others. So I'm taking this public journey with the support and love from both past and present members, volunteers, and board of directors of the organization. Here's to supporting one another on the journey!

UPDATED: November, 2021
Since 2003 when my Marine son left for his first combat tour to Iraq, MarineParents.com has been my life. As the founder, I wouldn't have had it any other way. But through the years, I became more and more unhealthy as my drive to develop outreach programs and push the organization to be the very best, took priority over taking care of my own health.

By late 2020 I was faced with life-threatening health problems: I was morbidly obese at 330 pounds, had type 2 diabetes, and had extremely high blood pressure. I couldnt walk to the end of my culdesac.

2021 was the organizations second year of Virtual Runs and I knew I had to participate as well weighing in at 330 pounds and unable to carry my own body any distance at all. I joined Team Marine Parents despite all my health issues. I committed to raising $5000 for the organizations outreach programs. I bought a seated elliptical and used that to complete our first virtual events of 2021. I started a healthy weight loss program that embraced all aspects of my life including whole foods, good nutrition, exercise, water, sleep, and less stress.

Fast forward to September of this year, having lost 50+ pounds by that time, I took a walk in my neighborhood for the first time ever. Yes, ever! I walked a mile. And I have walked every single morning since. I have now lost 70 pounds and I walk from 2-4 miles every morning. I committed to walking the Marine Corps Marathons 10K in October this year, and I did it. I have walked two more 10Ks since that time and will compete in the MC Turkey Trot for another 10K this month.

Team Marine Parents and our Virtual Runs have literally saved my life. There is absolutely no way anyone could have told me a year ago that I could have accomplished this. Im now completely off one of my diabetes medicines. My blood pressure is normal. I sleep through the night for the first time since my son went to war in 2003.

Im telling you this story today because Im proud of myself and what Ive been able to do once I committed to Team Marine Parents. In my quest for health this year, I have overlooked my commitment to raising $5000 as a member of Team Marine Parents for the organizations outreach programs. Im hoping that youll stand beside me today, with pride in the organization and enthusiasm for the Founder, and make a donation. Id love to meet my goal this year for the donations. I need your help to do that.

Im looking forward to another year on Team Marine Parents as I continue my journey to a healthier me. Im looking forward to telling a story next year of having lost another 70 pounds and doing Dale Larsons half marathon in July next year. I hope youll consider joining Team Marine Parents and making a donation to my $5000 goal.

And PS: For the first time EVER, my two youngest grandsons were able to sit on my lap a month ago. I have my lap back. Thank you Team Marine Parents!
