I joined TMP to be part of a community dedicated to helping our Maines and their families. I am the proud mother of 2 wonderful boys. My youngest son enlisted 5 years ago and recently finished his active-duty service. I have never been athletic or paid too much attention to my health, until about 2 years ago. I found myself looking at the number on the scale and decided I HAD to do something about it. I had a couple of friends who had success with a health program so I thought I would give it a try. I was amazed at how quickly the number of the scale went down, and how healthy I was feeling! I walked my first 5K less than 2 months into my new health program and loved it! As the pounds dropped and my health improved, I looked for more great causes to walk for. When I realized my weight goal (to lose 150 pounds) was within my reach, I decided it was time to set a new goal.... to run a half marathon! I began incorporating bursts of running into my walking routine. In the spring of 2020, I completed the Virtual Marine Corps 17.75K and soon after the Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon! I had a goal to finish in less than 4 hours.... I finished in 3:15! My knees don't allow me to do any running these days, but I do enjoy walking as much as I can. I have set a goal to walk at least 500 miles in 2021. I'm hoping that registering for charitable runs and helping to raise funds as part of TMP will help keep the motivation going strong to not only meet that goal but exceed it!
