Hi! I am Laura. Wife, mom of three men, new grandma, 5th- grade science teacher, and former Platoon Parent for Charlie Company, Group Guide for Echo Company, and Group Leader for Delta Company.
When my son joined the USMC in 2016 I wanted to get involved, so I volunteered for The Marine Parent Network. During my time as a volunteer, my appreciation for the Marine Corps grew. After leaving my volunteer position, I kept looking for a way to continue to support the Marine Corps. I decided that Team Marine Parents was the place to go.
I was dragged into running 15 years ago by a friend who convinced me the day before a Komen 5K to join her in the race. I had no real running experience before then. A week later she said how about a turkey trot? I said there was no way I was ready to run a 5-mile race, but I did, and I loved that feeling of accomplishment. Then she suggested a half marathon and over the next 8 years we ended up doing about 12-13 half marathons together. She had to quit running, and my running game slowed way down. I pretty much have stuck to walking for the last 5 years. Then Covid came. I don't know about you, but COVID 19 was more like COVID 35- as in 35 extra pounds! I know I need to get back into shape, so I picked a half marathon and started training. This is what led me back to Marine Parents. I love connecting with people who truly understand military life, I love supporting our military, and I love learning from others about running.
