I started seriously running again about 2 years ago when I was on a mission to lose weight. I did lose 100 lbs and fell back in love with running. Running is my therapy.

I am a psych nurse and an EMT so my jobs can be somewhat stressful. I set 2 running goals for myself. My first was to run a marathon when I turned 49. I accomplished that goal last August, so this year is my first full marathon at 5-0.

I chose Marine Parents after my oldest son told me he wanted to become a marine. He told me around the holidays after I had already been planning my marathon but I was looking for training runs to participate in. My family does not have a huge military background. My grandfather and uncle were in the army. My sisters husband is a marine. My ex-father-in-law was in the air force. It surprised me when my son told me but not because I was afraid for him or didnt want him to do it but because it is something I never thought was something he was interested in.

I believe long-distance running is not only a physical challenge but a mental journey. Its not for everyone just like the military. Because of the pride I feel for my son and all the other Marine recruits, I decided to check out this team. I look forward to participating in more events and raising funds for whatever needs are out there. Its my way of thanking those that have served as well as those who chose to now serve.
