Paul Neidhart completes Marathon in 6:18:52
Event: Marine Corps Marathon and MCK 10k held 10/31/2020
Sponsored in Arlington, VA
This was a good year for races; ironically because of the pandemic and the ensuing shutdown of all live events. I hadn't planned on doing any MCM events this year. It's way too expensive to get to DC from Montana and just wasn't in the budget at all. When the events became virtual I was so excited to participate! It's so rewarding to run these, to represent TMP, to show my support and honor our USMC. As I ran I thought about the sacrifice our military makes every day and the commitment it takes for that life. It's humbling to lift them up in such an intensely personal way. When I ran the Blue Mile this year my wife was with me on her bicycle and we talked about our family members that have served our great nation. It was almost as emotional as the live event.
The fact I was able to do 2 MCMO events was incredible! (With 1 more to come) This is the first time I did the 10k and the 2nd MCM for me. Also my second ever marathon. I knew I couldn't do the 50k, but was sorely tempted to go for the trifecta. Maybe next year. I finished the 10k in 1:18:47. I finished the Marathon in 6:18:52.
I volunteered for Marine Parents for several years and was excited when I heard about the TMP part of it. My dear friends Lisa, Shannon, Shelly and Tricia talked me into joining the team and brow beat me into running the MCM in 2018. It was literally a life altering decision and event. Before that I ran inconsistently, most to prepare for 1 or 2 events a year at the most. Now I run year round, 3-5 times a week when I can and plan to keep it up until I can’t. I love the camaraderie runners have, the selfless support and encouragement he running community gives each other. This team is so special in that regard and has the added bonus of being part of an incredible organization that does so much good for our Marines and their families
