I'm inspired by my two adult children, Derrick and Lauren, who always accomplish their "big life goals". When they say they're going to do something, by golly they do it. My son said he would be a Marine, said he would play college football, said he would buy a house on his own, said he would get healthy, and he did it ALL. My daughter sets her mind to getting something done and nothing stops her; she's running her own business, has three properties she takes care of, plus she's raising four kids.

My kids are my heroes. If they can do all of those things, then I can do this! I've lost 88 pounds since January 12, 2021. I couldn't walk to the end of my cul-de-sac a year ago. And now, I'm walking 10Ks just because it's the weekend and I can!

For our January virtual run, I did 7.35 miles in preparation for the first-ever half-marathon I'll do in honor of our long-time volunteer, Dale Larson. He ran hundreds of half-marathons and volunteered hundreds of hours helping our wounded heroes and serving meals at Balboa! His passing was unexpected and we do our July Virtual Run in his honor. I'll add a mile to my VR goal every month until July when I'll do 13.1 miles...walking...my first ever! Thank you Dale, for inspiring me!

Thank you to my kids for always standing by me and inspiring me; you are truly my heroes.

Its been a year now since I began running this 5k each month. My son is my hero ( although he will tell you he isn't because we aren't in a war). I do this to keep myself running each week. This was one of my worst times ever so its only up from here!

My inspiration is my son PFC Noah Chavez. Graduated Platoon 3234 Honor man for Kilo Company MCRD San Diego 10/22/21. He continues to work hard as a new Marine and is an incredible example to me. I started walking/running when he was in boot camp as a way to feel closer to him.

My son is in the Marine Corps. He is the hero I cheer for, pray for, and support with all my being. I decided to get my health back in order in his honor and so will be doing one of your races every month this year. Hopefully I will bring awareness and support from others in my community.

I joined this event as incentive to workout routinely. When I think of my recruit and imagine all the physical work he is doing day in and day out, I think to myself, I can get out there and get moving too. My son has been an inspiration to me through his dedication, determination and perseverance. He never says quit. I am grateful for the work our recruits and marines do daily in order to be the best that they can be. What a blessing.

My son who is a Marine recruit is my inspiration. We used to run together and this was a way for me to keep running with him, at least in spirit. Running on our usual route.

The weather was extremely cold but it added to the challenge. I can share with him through a letter that I kept going just like I encourage him to do through his challenges.
